Donate to the trust
The establishment of The Winston Churchill Memorial Trust in 1965 essentially stemmed from the generosity of the Australian people. Since the initial fundraising appeal in Sir Winston’s honour, many individuals and organisations have donated to the Trust in order to financially support the Fellowship award scheme. The Trust has also been in receipt of bequests that, depending on the sum received, allow for the awarding of Fellowships in memoriam. The Trust is also very pleased that past Churchill Fellows are graciously contributing to Fellowships.
Your donation will assist the Trust achieve its aim of providing an opportunity for Australians to travel overseas to conduct research in their chosen field where it is not readily available in Australia. Your donation will also reward the proven achievement of talented and deserving Australians with further opportunity in their pursuit of excellence for the enrichment of Australian society.
Any donation or bequest conferred to the Trust is used solely for the purposes of awarding Fellowships to Australian citizens over the age of 18 years. No amount is taken from the donation for the purposes of administering the Trust or its Fellowships.
There are many ways in which Fellowships can be supported. Donations and bequests of any amount are welcomed however in order to secure naming rights to an individual Fellowship the donation required is $25,000. This amount represents the average cost of a single Fellowship currently being awarded by the Trust. In order to secure a perpetual Fellowship awarded annually the donation required is $500,000. A donation of this size is capitalised into the investment portfolio of the Trust with the objective of earning 5% per annum, giving an income of $25,000 per year to fund continuing Fellowships. Similarly a donation in the order of $125,000 would have a named Fellowship every four years and a donation of $250,000 would have a named Fellowship every second year.
There are many benefits to donating to the Trust. Not only is a donor supporting an invariably talented and passionate Australian, the donor has the option of selecting the Fellowship topic or project area and whether the Fellowship will be a national award or restricted to an individual State or Territory. Donors have a close relationship with the Trust and are invited to presentation ceremonies and award dinners in order to meet their Fellows. After the completion of the Fellowship, a high number of donors continue their relationship with their Fellows for many years.
